LINE was founded in 1989 as LINE TV by Piers Lea, our CEO. Back then, he brought a fresh vision to the world of digital learning and corporate communications. Since that time, the world has changed, and we have changed with it. Digital learning has been revolutionised by the rise of the internet, multimedia, rapid development, Web 2.0 and computer games, and we have flourished by embracing these changes enthusiastically.
In 1989, we had a four-person team working out of a small room in West London. Now, our team is more than 100 strong, spread over offices in London, Zurich and Sheffield. We’ve also cultivated an impressive international client base in the public, corporate and defence sectors. But no matter who we’re working for, our dedication to clients never wavers, and we’re always looking for new ways to make learning campaigns effective.
We offer our clients unparalleled flexibility of service, from consulting to rapid development, bespoke high-end e-learning to point-of-need information repositories. We consider ourselves the ‘blended learning people’, constantly striving to give our customers the best blend for their needs with all the resources and techniques at our disposal.

On the 8th April 2014, it was announced that LINE was to be acquired by Learning Technologies Group plc (LTG). LINE will join the other companies in LTG’s portfolio to form a global learning technologies business that delivers strategic and transformative end-to-end learning solutions.

Our team combines some of the most talented and creative minds in the industry. Working across three offices in London, Sheffield and Zurich, innovation & creativity is at the heart of everything we do. Piers has worked in distance learning and communications since being at the University of London in the early eighties. He founded LINE in 1989. As well as leading the company, Piers also works at a consultative level, helping clients achieve the best results from the use of learning technologies. As an avid football player he spends his spare time trying to keep fit on the football pitch and on football tours that have recently taken him to Pakistan, Iran, Uzbekistan and Nepal.
Andrew JolyDesign Director
Andrew has been leading creative and innovative projects in the communications, media and technology sectors for 25 years, working as a Brand Consultant at Wolf Olins and as Commissioning Editor at BBC Worldwide. At LINE, Andrew is responsible for leading the design and strategy teams as they define and deliver innovative and effective learning solutions to all our clients. Andrew lives at the top of a hill in the Peak District and plays a bit of mandolin.
Steve AshSales and Marketing Director
Steve has a solid sales and marketing background incorporating over 30 years experience in both the corporate and public sectors. He joined LINE in 2005 and has successfully provided leadership and focus to the generation of new business opportunities and key account management since that time. Steve is a keen DIY enthusiast and spends his spare time renovating old houses.
Paul BrownTechnical Director
Paul is a technologist with over 10 years industry experience of designing and delivering technical solutions. At LINE he works with a wide range of clients from the corporate, government and military sectors introducing both processes and technical architectures which combine the best of the web with the needs of distance learning. Paul is a keen cycler, photographer and runner, but all that has changed a little with the arrival of his lovely daughter.
Keith DownesDirector, Defence Lead
Keith has 20 years experience in delivering technology-based learning solutions as an education and training technologist. He heads up our Defence sector, working at the forefront of learning technologies with organisations to provide learning across major programmes for the Armed Forces.
Nick WelchProduction Director
Nick has worked in digital innovation, communications and elearning for over ten years, with experience in managing and delivering digital projects across a variety of industries. At LINE, he is responsible for managing the production team, ensuring the correct resources are in place to offer the best solutions, and to maintain and exceed client expectations. Outside of work Nick can be found tinkering with technology and gadgets and occasionally takes to the stage, playing guitar in a local rock band.
Fiona PartingtonHR & Operations Director
Fiona has worked in publishing and production for over 30 years and for the past 19 years with LINE, working initially as a Producer. Since 2005 Fiona has been responsible for HR and people development – her aim is to ensure that LINE has the knowledge and skills it requires to support its clients. As a lover of the arts, Fiona is a keen thespian and can regularly be seen treading the boards of London’s fringe theatres.
